Trail Safety

When taking on our trails, safety is of the utmost importance. There are several risks that must be understood and respected. Read on to ensure you’re ready.

Your safety is our top priority, so please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the safety measures and protocols in place. By staying aware and following these guidelines, you help ensure a secure and comfortable experience for everyone.

The trails can be challenging at times, so you must be fully knowledgable and prepared for each trail. This means familiarising yourself with both the Trail Safety Information, and the individual trails themselves.

What to know when tackling the trails

A safe and enjoyable trail experience starts with good planning. Whether you’re heading out for a short walk or a full-day ride, it’s important to prepare properly and understand that your safety is your responsibility.

Trail conditions can change quickly. Cold, wet or windy weather can occur at any time of year and may lead to hypothermia if you’re not well prepared. Wearing the right clothing and carrying suitable equipment will help you stay warm, dry and comfortable.

Along the trail you’ll find kilometre markers displaying important emergency information. Take note of these as you go as they provide critical location details that help emergency services reach you quickly if needed. Toilets are spaced approximately 20km apart, so please plan ahead.

Using the Trail

The trail is used at your own risk and should only be accessed during daylight hours. Stay clear of trail edges at all times and remain alert to your surroundings. Weather conditions such as high winds, heat, rain or cold can create additional hazards, so be prepared to slow down, adjust your plans or turn back if conditions deteriorate.

Always follow trail signage and instructions. Sections of the trail may be closed at times for maintenance, repairs or night pest control operations. These closures are for your safety and must be respected.
